Notice to current and prospective clients
GOOD FAITH ESTIMATE
As per the No Surprises Act, you have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical and mental health care will cost. Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who do not have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services.
You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services.
You can ask your health care provider, and any other health care provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule any services.
If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, the extra charges can be disputed.
Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.
For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises.
SUPERBILLS
I offer superbills as an out-of-network provider. Not familiar with Superbills? you can learn more about Superbills here or here. Also, make sure you find out your health insurance's requirements and coverage.
When you request a Superbill, I will provide you with a document you can submit to your health insurance in order to claim reimbursement for mental health services. It is important that you are aware of the following:
- The therapist is not responsible for processing claims. You are solely responsible for paying the therapist your fee at the beginning of each session, for contacting your health insurance about out-of-network plan coverage and eligibility, and for submitting the claim.
- A mental health disorder diagnosis is part of the required information for a superbill, this diagnosis is part of your medical record. The clinical diagnosis is based on your current symptoms, all previous diagnoses are based on your symptoms at that time. We will discuss your diagnosis during sessions.
- Insurance companies require clinicians to give a mental health diagnosis (i.e., “major depression” or “obsessive-compulsive disorder”) for reimbursement. By submitting a superbill claim to your insurance company/provider, you will be informing them of your diagnosis, and the times and dates of services provided. They may request further information to authorize additional services regarding treatment.
- IMPORTANT: Some psychiatric diagnoses are not eligible for reimbursement (ie: marriage/couples therapy). In the event of non-coverage or denial of payment, you will be responsible to pay for services provided.
